  • Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson and Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins have wagered their cities' signature pies ahead of Monday's CFP National Championship game at Hard Rock Stadium. Thomson offers Two Sticks Bakery’s sugar cream pie while Higgins competes with Fookem’s Fabulous key lime pie in a friendly civic bet.  Indiana Daily Student

  • Bloomington’s theater scene welcomes two new companies as After the Storm Productions debuts 'Constellations' at Waldron Firebay from Feb. 19-22 and Fourth Wall offers 'Speak Now' on March 6-7; local venues like IU Auditorium and Buskirk-Chumley also host winter shows.  The Herald-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • IU Bloomington chemistry professor Alexandru B Georgescu was awarded the Oxide Electronics Prize at the International Workshop on Oxide Electronics in Banff, Canada for his work on computational research of oxide materials (this award is given annually to researchers under 40).  Indiana University
  • Ivy Tech Bloomington celebrates its 25th anniversary with a renewed nursing school, expanded partnerships with IU and ROI, and the nation’s first Air Force Enlisted Training Corps program; celebrations from August through May aim to boost education and workforce development in the region.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana University football players arrived at Miami International Airport on Friday, Jan. 16 ahead of Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship. Coach Curt Cignetti spoke briefly with reporters before the team focused on final game preparations in Miami.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti’s contract contains a clause that triggers a review meeting with IU officials after the postseason if the team makes the College Football Playoffs semifinals, potentially boosting his pay beyond an average annual salary of $11.6 million. The undefeated Hoosiers, now 15-0, are near bonus milestones.  The Herald-Times
  • After losses to Nebraska and Michigan State, Indiana men's basketball hosts Iowa at 2 p.m. today in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
