  • Indiana University’s Byrnes Institute honored composer Arvo Pärt’s 90th birthday last Friday at the Simon Music Center with a guest lecture by Jeffers Engelhardt, a performance by the NOTUS Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, and a visit from Estonian ambassador Kristjan Prikk.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, Jan.26, College Avenue (south of Third Street) will close for skybridge construction connecting the Convention Center to its expansion, with vehicle traffic rerouted to Rogers Street. A southbound lane reopens Feb.13 while curb work on the east lane lasts until June 26.  Indiana Daily Student

  • Residents in Bloomington can ease winter storm woes by clearing debris and applying deicers to driveways and walkways before snowfall (to prevent ice bonding) while following tips for pet safety and concrete care.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Herald-Times reports area girls basketball stat leaders ahead of the final week of the regular season, with top players from Owen Valley (notably Aubrey Sparks) and Lighthouse Christian (Ellie Mae Winders) posting strong scoring, rebounding, and assist numbers as teams from Bloomington North and South also show strong performances.  The Herald-Times
  • South girls basketball saw milestones and setbacks as senior Julia Lashley broke her hand on Jan. 15 while nearing 1,000 points, triggering free left-handed layups in later games (she eventually scored 1,001 points) and junior Ellie Mae Winders reached 1,000 points during a home win at Shoals.  The Herald-Times
  • The Indiana Hoosiers will take the field at Memorial Stadium today to celebrate their 2025 national championship season with a planned ceremony for local fans.  The Herald-Times
