COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ed Dathe converted his century-old Model A truck into a working snowplow, and the vintage vehicle is set to clear roads during upcoming winter storms. Neighbors have admired its unique design (a nod to local ingenuity) since photos were taken last December.  The Herald-Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, a local hiker enjoyed a brisk winter hike on the Rock Shelter Trail in Morgan Monroe State Forest, a three-mile loop with rugged gravel, scenic wooded paths, and a historic rock shelter near Bloomington. The trail reminds visitors to value and protect these natural landmarks.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Bloomington has revised its sanitation pickup schedule as delays continue from Winter Storm Fern and low windchill temperatures. Pickup will resume tomorrow, Jan. 28, and residents should keep carts off streets until service restarts.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Monroe County Highway Department crews spent 48 hours clearing roads during a snowstorm that dropped 12-16 inches and pre-treated 700 miles with a salt-brine (beet juice mixed in), sand, and salt. The crews rested Monday and resumed early Tuesday to keep roads safe.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana lawmakers may repeal Hunter’s Law that helps kids manage diabetes in class, urging a shift in existing safeguards amid ongoing debate on federal versus state protections. Rep. Cash plans to propose an amendment today to prevent the law’s removal as the bill moves forward.  WTHR

  • Indiana University researchers are advancing musculoskeletal health by developing drug treatments and mobile screening units to improve bone recovery and deliver care in local communities.   • Indiana football fans have embraced head coach Curt Cignetti as his leadership is credited with reviving the team’s confidence and winning attitude at Memorial Stadium — a change that has brought excitement to local games.   • Indiana men's basketball will try for its first ranked win tonight at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall against No. 12 Purdue; the Hoosiers build on Friday's 82-59 road win over Rutgers with strong play from Tucker DeVries, Lamar Wilkerson, and Nick Dorn.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana wrestling maintained a perfect record with a 32-13 conference win over Michigan State on Monday in Bloomington — four technical falls and one pin marked the victory. The team will face No. 12 Illinois in Champaign on Friday.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana basketball commit Vaughn Karvala, ranked No. 40 nationally, helped Bella Vista Prep beat IMG Academy 66-32 on Jan. 18. The 6-foot-7 forward signed with IU and said he is eager to join teammate Prince-Alexander Moody and build his game.  The Herald-Times
  • Readers may vote until Thursday, Jan.29 in the IU Health Herald-Times Athlete of the Week poll featuring local high school athletes from basketball and track.
