CULTURE NEWS

  • The second annual Bloomington Winter Blues Festival will take place on Feb. 21 at Buskirk-Chumley Theater (114 E. Kirkwood Ave) with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and will feature returning acts Mike Milligan and Steam Shovel, King Bee and The Stingers, and the new duo Andra Faye and Scott Ballantine.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington Transit’s Route 13, linking downtown with Ivy Tech Community College and Cook Medical, may end service on March 8 if Monroe County does not provide $184,000; a public hearing is scheduled for Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. at Grimes Lane administrative headquarters (final funding decisions are pending).  The B Square Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana women's basketball lost 79-73 to USC on Thursday after an early lead slipped away when star guard Shay Ciezki missed the game (she rolled her ankle in practice). Coach Teri Moren said the team will work to reduce mistakes ahead of Sunday's game against UCLA at 3 p.m.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana baseball lost 9-4 to No. 11 North Carolina in Chapel Hill Friday afternoon when Tony Neubeck’s strong start was offset by costly errors. The team will play again today at noon to finish the opening series.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana women's basketball lost a close game to USC 79-73 on Thursday in Los Angeles despite missing top scorer Shay Ciezki (injured before the match). Freshman Maya Makalusky scored a career high 29 while teammates stepped up as the Hoosiers prepare for Sunday's contest against No. 2 UCLA.  Indiana Daily Student
  • On Feb. 12, Bloomington South won 49-40 against Southport in high school boys basketball—Batesville won 73-35 over Rushville and Brownstown won 80-46 over Madison across Indiana.  WTHR
  • Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines won the Broyles Award at a ceremony in Hot Springs, Ark. on Jan. 7 (he was recognized as college football’s top assistant coach), capping a season that ended with a national championship and an undefeated 16-0 record.  The Bloomingtonian
