CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Seoul National University musicians showcased traditional and modern Korean music at IU’s Shreve Auditorium Monday night during the final leg of their 2026 Global Exchange Project. The hour-long performance mixed solo pieces with ensemble collaborations to connect local audiences with Korea’s musical heritage. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ The Earth Connection Film Festival will show international, award-winning short films at IU Cinema on Earth Day, April 22, featuring three themed screenings, a plant propagation party, cash prizes, and an environmental research study. - ➤ Bloomington honored Elizabeth Mitchell as the 2026 Living Legend for her 50+ years preserving local African American history; the Black History Month gala honoring her will be held on Feb. 28 at Woolery Mill. Tickets cost $60 and must be purchased in advance. The Herald-Times

- ➤ Local tutor Makailya Rice is helping kids explore Black history through The Legacy Collection workbook during Black History Month. The project features stories of innovators like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks (inspiring students to believe in their potential). WTHR
- ➤ IU Chancellor David Reingold answered questions during a Monday Q&A with Student Government and addressed free speech, IU President Pamela Whitten’s raise, and non-traditional student concerns. - ➤ Bloomington High School North is set to receive $8 million in upgrades for athletic facilities including a new track and field throwing area, synthetic turf soccer field, batting cages, and more. Construction will begin in March and finish in fall with funds coming entirely from bonds so classroom resources remain intact. WTHR

- ➤ Bloomington is accepting applications for the 2026 Downtown Outreach grants to support nonprofits addressing opioid addiction. Nonprofits providing prevention, treatment, recovery and housing stability services must apply by 5 p.m. on March 13, with grant awards announced by April 6 (program funded by opioid settlement money). - ➤ Indiana baseball's bullpen struggled in Jacksonville — giving up 14 runs — and the team is set to face Xavier University today at 2 p.m. at Hayden Field in Cincinnati. Indiana Daily Student
