CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Seven on-campus a cappella groups will compete on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. at The Buskirk-Chumley Theater for a chance to perform at the Little 500 bike races in April * ticket sales support the IUSF’s Students Helping Students campaign. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ The Environmental Commission announced the 14th annual Eco-Heroes Art Contest to celebrate native insects, themed Our Nature at Night. Entries are open 8 a.m. Tuesday, Mar. 17 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 7 at City Hall & winners will be honored Saturday, Apr. 18 at Switchyard Park. City of Bloomington
- ➤ The musical adaptation of Mrs. Doubtfire will play at IU Auditorium on Feb. 28 with a matinee at 2 p.m. and an 8 p.m. performance; a pre-show talk on adaptation history is scheduled an hour before the evening show, with tickets (on sale at box office and website). Indiana Daily Student

- ➤ MCCSC met Tuesday to review the future use of the old Herald-Times building (1900 S. Walnut St) and provided a quarterly financial update noting funding challenges from lower enrollment and high housing costs. The board unanimously adopted a resolution to renew early childhood partnerships for the 2026-27 school year. Indiana Daily Student
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bloomington’s board of public works voted Tuesday (Feb. 24) to approve the 2026 Kirkwood dining plan, keeping the street open to vehicles while allowing parklets for restaurant outdoor dining. Special event closures for Taste of Bloomington and Pridefest will still occur. The B Square Bulletin
- ➤ Monroe County lowered property assessments for 112 South Walnut Street properties due to business decline & safety concerns, cutting about $17 million from the tax base and shifting roughly $350,000 of tax burden to other property owners. The corridor affected spans key parcels in the Hopewell redevelopment area. The Herald-Times
- ➤ Bloomington Transit has extended Route 13 for 45 days after public testimony urged keeping the service active rather than canceling it, to allow county officials time to secure non-city funding for the route serving major employers & students in western Bloomington. The B Square Bulletin

- ➤ Former Indiana linebacker Aiden Fisher, who led the team to a national championship, is training for the NFL Combine while preparing for his Pro Day in Bloomington on April 1; he is projected as a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh and will await family+support. - ➤ On Feb. 24 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Indiana lost to Northwestern 72—68. Senior guard Lamar Wilkerson scored 18 points and senior guard Tayton Conerway added 14 as the Hoosiers celebrated a key three-pointer during the game. Indiana Daily Student
