CULTURE NEWS

  • Pablo Aslan led a two-hour tango-jazz concert in Auer Hall on Thursday night as the final event of a week-long tango festival, performing works by Astor Piazzolla while celebrating his donation of personal archives to Jacobs. The archives are on display in Cook Music Library until March 15 (as noted by the Latin American Music Center).  Indiana Daily Student

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Indiana unemployment claims dropped to 2,473 last week from 2,941, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, while total jobless claims nationwide rose to 212,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.  The Herald-Times

  • Marty Baron praised IU student journalists for defending their free press rights during an investigative conference on Feb. 27 + his remarks underscored ongoing support for journalism amid recent censorship changes.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Braun signed a sweeping energy law that shifts Indiana utility regulation to performance based ratemaking and mandates levelized billing for eligible low-income customers starting after June 30, plus it extends extreme heat protections and requires quarterly utility reports to the Consumer Counselor.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana women’s basketball faces Penn State today at 2 p.m. at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington in a must-win game to secure their Big Ten Tournament spot; the contest is the final home appearance for seniors Shay Ciezki and Jerni Kiaku.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Bloomington swimmers competed at the IHSAA state boys swim meet prelims in Indianapolis Friday, breaking school records and winning finals spots. The swim finals start today at 1 p.m. with South's Peter Kovacs among the leading contenders.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football receiver Elijah Sarratt looked back on his title journey at the NFL combine on Friday and recalled his best season. He said that period helped shape his love for the game.  The Herald-Times
  • Louis Moore ended his Indiana football career as an undefeated national champion on Saturday while earning All Big Ten and All American honors and preparing for the NFL combine. His career spanned time at Navarro, Ole Miss and a return to Bloomington.  Indiana Daily Student
  • After losing three straight games, Indiana Hoosiers are nearing bubble status ahead of a matchup with Michigan State on Sunday and a season finale with Ohio State.   • Former Indiana football cornerback D'Angelo Ponds tied for best vertical jump at the NFL Combine on Friday, Feb. 27 at Lucas Oil Stadium, recording a 43.5 inch leap. He will look to boost his draft prospects ahead of IU's pro day in April.  The Herald-Times
