COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bloomington’s Downtown Outreach Grant application is open until 5 p.m. March 13 for local nonprofits that support recovery and provide affordable housing; organizations like Courage to Change Sober Living are using past grants to expand services amid the opioid crisis.  Indiana Daily Student
  • AES Indiana canceled a community open house (threats on social media emerged) less than an hour before it began Tuesday night. The company said it rescheduled the meeting and is assessing next week’s event as customers seek answers about rising utility bills.  WTHR

CULTURE NEWS

  • IU Theatre will stage 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' at Wells-Metz Theatre from March 5–13 — the production uses a circus-inspired setup to celebrate queer identity — with tickets costing $19 for students and $29 for adults.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials invite residents to nominate outstanding volunteers for the 2026 Be More Awards with nominations open until Tuesday, March 31 at the Volunteer Network; winners will be honored on Tuesday, April 28 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater and each recipient’s nonprofit gets a $1,000 grant.  City of Bloomington

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana men’s basketball will face Minnesota today at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall at 6:30 p.m.—the team will honor six seniors 15 minutes before tipoff in its final home contest of the season.  Indiana Daily Student
  • IHSAA boys basketball sectionals kicked off Tuesday in Bloomington and nearby towns with several matchups played. Today, scheduled games in Greenwood (Indian Creek vs. Beech Grove) and Salem (Mitchell vs. Clarksville) will update the tournament as action continues later this week.  The Herald-Times
  • USA Today Network released the final high school boys basketball poll on March 3, ranking teams in Classes 1A through 4A ahead of the state tournament. The poll noted unbeaten leaders in several classes and adjustments due to Princeton's forfeit, refining preseason predictions for the tournament.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana women’s basketball’s Shay Ciezki earned All-Big Ten first-team honors from the media and second-team by coaches, while freshman Maya Makalusky joined the All-Big Ten freshman team. The team holds a No. 13 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and faces Nebraska today at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Edgewood Mustangs beat Owen Valley 47-30 in the Class 3A Speedway opener on March 3, 2026, as AJ Norris led a second-half rally (scoring 13 points) that helped the team adjust to missing starter Caden Jones. They will face Cascade in Friday’s semifinal at 6 p.m.  The Herald-Times
