  • IU Public Safety will conduct a statewide tornado drill during Indiana Severe Weather Preparedness Week and all IU community members are set to receive an IU Notify alert on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at 10:15 a.m. Participants are advised to move indoors to a low level or interior room for safety.  Indiana University

  • Bloomington hosts events this weekend: 'TINA: The Tina Turner Musical' Thu & Fri at IU Auditorium, the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show three days at the Convention Center, Lunar New Year crafts at the downtown library Sat, & a food bank benefit concert Sun at St. Mark’s UMC.  The Herald-Times
  • The Buskirk-Chumley Theater announced two upcoming events in Bloomington: comedian Paula Poundstone will perform Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. and the Cosmic Songwriter Festival featuring Clayton Anderson is scheduled for Saturday, May 16 at 7 p.m. (local presales are now available).  The Bloomingtonian
  • The Jacobs Opera and Ballet Theater will perform Massenet’s opera Cendrillon this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Musical Arts Center with a pre-show Opera Insights Lecture (in the north lobby) and a second performance on Saturday.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ivy Tech Bloomington today received a landmark investment to expand its Marchant School of Nursing. The 10 million gift from the IU Health Foundation and additional funds from the Ferguson family will boost scholarships, improve instructor salaries, and expand clinical opportunities in the region.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana men’s tennis will open conference play with a matchup against UCLA on Friday, Mar. 6 at the IU Tennis Center in Bloomington. The team built momentum last fall with strong singles and doubles wins and now faces a challenging Big Ten schedule.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana basketball has lost four straight — with a record of 17-12 overall and 8-10 in the Big Ten — and after a must-win game against Minnesota on Wednesday at Assembly Hall, they will face Ohio State on Saturday to keep their March Madness hopes alive.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana TE Riley Nowakowski scored a touchdown in the national championship game on Jan. 19 to give the Hoosiers an early lead and later attended the NFL Scouting Combine, ranking as the 20th best tight end. He credited his (lunch pail, hard hat) work ethic for his rise.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana women's basketball rallied in the Big Ten Tournament to beat Nebraska 72-69 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday — the comeback from a 20-point deficit was driven by a 7-0 run in the final minutes.  Indiana Daily Student
