COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bloomington Volunteer Network offers several opportunities: nominate volunteers for the 2026 Be More Awards (nominations due March 31), attend Buskirk Chumley Theater usher training on March 24 from 6 to 7:15 p.m., or help with Autism Rocks and Rolls gala set up on April 18 at 840 S. CULTURE NEWS

  • Bloomington Symphony Orchestra blended Japanese traditional music with western compositions in a cross-cultural performance at Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Sunday, Mar. 8. The event featured 50 musicians — including 17-year-old debutant Ella Hightower and guest Shawn Tairyu Head—and was produced in partnership with the IU Asian Culture Center.  Indiana Daily Student

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Monday, March 9, AAA reported Indiana gas prices rose as global oil costs surged amid Middle East tensions—Bloomington fuel reached $3.577 per gallon from $2.944 earlier this month.  The Herald-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • IU students launched Lawgic Prep on Feb. 23 to offer a personalized, low-cost LSAT study solution for peers frustrated with expensive prep options — the platform charges a flat rate and will add video lessons after beta testing next month.  Indiana Daily Student

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A major storm system will hit Bloomington tonight with severe winds and rain, according to the National Weather Service. Rain with gusts up to 29 mph is expected Tuesday night through Wednesday (90% chance of precipitation), with a cooldown bringing highs of 48 on Thursday and 58 on Friday.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation Department received a $50,000 state grant on Feb. 19 to assess and treat 530 ash trees suffering from emerald ash borer damage, and local funds will help match it as the city works with The Davey Tree Expert Company to ensure public safety plus replant native trees.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monroe County is closing three roads for construction this week with Woodyard Road closed Monday-Wednesday, Rockport Road closed today-Thursday, and Profile Parkway closed Wednesday (8 a.m.-4 p.m.). Seven other roads have lane restrictions, and heavy rains may cause additional delays.  The Herald-Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Indiana University researchers found that a common age-related condition (CHIP) may worsen inflammatory bowel disease and discovered a drug that reduced gut inflammation in mice. They will begin a Phase Ib trial to test APX3330 as a non-immunosuppressive treatment in IBD patients.  Indiana University

SPORTS NEWS

  • Little 500 celebrates 75 years with races and community events. The men's race is at 2 p.m. April 25 at Bill Armstrong Stadium while the women's race is at 4 p.m. April 24 plus added events include a documentary panel, concert, and alumni activities.  Indiana University
  • Indiana softball, coming off a weekend series win over Minnesota, will host Loyola (Chicago) at 4 p.m. today at Andy Mohr Field in Bloomington. The team aims for its third straight win.  Indiana Daily Student
  • The Indiana men's tennis team lost its weekend matches against UCLA and USC at IU Tennis Center, leaving them with a 0 to 2 conference record. They will travel Friday to Eugene to face Oregon and then play Washington in Seattle on Sunday.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana swimmers earned a chance to compete in the NCAA Championships during the Last Chance Meets at Bloomington's Counsilman Billingsley Aquatics Center this weekend. Travis Gulledge and teammates improved their times to secure their spots, with official selections coming next Wednesday.  Indiana Daily Student
