  • In Bloomington, IU students with Iranian roots are keeping up with the conflict in Iran that began Feb. 28 and express both hope and fear over their families and futures.   • At Friend's Place Shelter (Bloomington's primary overnight shelter for women), 13-year-old Sumi, a black Sumatra chicken, offers emotional support to clients as she is cared for by case manager Erica Alvey. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Heavy rains caused flooding in southern Indiana yesterday, killing three people and leaving an 82-year-old man missing after his truck was swept away; emergency teams used cell data (and drones) to search floodwaters in counties south of Monroe.  The Bloomingtonian

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Noriteo, a Korean lifestyle store offering dining, K-pop, beauty products and photo booths, is set to open today at College Mall in Bloomington. The company — owned by Able Solutions USA — plans more Indiana openings at Castleton Square Mall in Indianapolis and Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette by early spring.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Indiana University alumnus Steve Pinder’s short film Jane Austen’s Period Drama was nominated for an Oscar in the Live Action Short Film category on Feb. 22 — the nod has opened new doors for future projects inspired by his IU roots.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Since March 1, Kurt Ribisl serves as dean of the IU School of Public Health, leading 3,700 undergrads and 450 grad students. He aims to boost research and funding + host a year review presentation in April and a welcome event for students when building renovations finish in fall.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Bloomington High School North has invested $8 million in a project that upgrades outdoor sports facilities funded through bond financing from the MCCSC initiative — the new tennis courts are ready for this spring while new soccer and track areas will be finished by fall.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced updated 2026 hours and pricing for Griffy Lake Boathouse at 3400 North Headley Road. Changes include revised seasonal schedules, a $12 hourly watercraft rental fee, and a new photo ID requirement for renters.  City of Bloomington
  • Monroe County council approved $184,104 to keep Bloomington Transit's Route 13 running from downtown to Ivy Tech-Park 48 for a year. The council acted unanimously as county commissioners will confirm an interlocal agreement on Thursday & the route supports local work and education.  The B Square Bulletin

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Workers continued construction on the Bloomington Convention Center expansion in downtown on March 9 using Monroe County funds. The project is one of the largest development efforts in the area.  The Bloomingtonian

  • The Herald-Times is accepting votes for its IU Health Readers' Girls Basketball Player of the Year — nominees include players from Bloomington North, South, Edgewood, Eastern Greene, Lighthouse Christian and Owen Valley — and the poll will close Friday, Mar. 13 at noon.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana baseball beat Wright State 12-4 at Bart Kaufman Field after transfer pitcher Kaden Jacobi struck out the only batter he faced in a pivotal sixth inning+ it sparked a three-run rally. The Hoosiers will travel to Eugene to face Oregon in a three-game series starting at 7:05 p.m. Friday.  Indiana Daily Student
