- ➤ Bloomington and Indiana University will host Asianfest on March 27, 2025 to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The free event includes an outdoor fair on Kirkwood Avenue from 5 to 7 p.m.—cultural performances follow at Buskirk-Chumley Theater from 7 to 8:30 p.m. City of Bloomington
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students learned basic hand stitching at a sewing lesson held Tuesday in the Frangipani Room at IU Union Board. Sophomores led the class (teaching blanket, back, and running stitches as well as how to sew a button) with kits provided by Bloomington Fine Art Supply. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ IU President Pamela Whitten announced that David Reingold will serve as the new Chancellor for Bloomington starting June 2, 2025—Reingold, a former IU faculty member from 1997 to 2015, will oversee finance, administration, community engagement, enrollment, student life and campus research. - ➤ Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson said she will ask the Indiana Supreme Court to review the city’s constitutional case on annexation after a lower court ruling stopped plans in five areas—she plans to file the petition in early April to clarify local powers over urban growth. - ➤ Mayor Kerry Thomson said Bloomington will petition the Indiana Supreme Court in early April after state actions voided annexation contracts that limited the city’s ability to expand. The mayor said the petition will clarify local governments’ rights to manage growth so that all who use city services help pay for them — a matter that may affect every community in Indiana. - ➤ Bloomington’s city council halted plans to start changes to the unified development ordinance after a 4—4 vote at Wednesday’s meeting.
