CULTURE NEWS

  • Jacobs School of Music students performed at the Musical Arts Center Thursday night in their Spring Showcase—guest conductors and student soloists brought life to the concert. The Concert Band will perform at 8 p.m. April 14 in Auer Hall with Tiffany Galus and graduate conductor Jacob Kessler.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Silkroad Ensemble held a performance at IU Auditorium that invited the audience to join in communal music through chants and call-and-response singing. The show highlighted diverse instruments and lively moments that united attendees into one creative community.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Ballet Folklórico de IU delighted 150 attendees with vibrant Mexican dances, mosaic making (and object horoscopes) at the IU Museum of Archeology and Anthropology on March 12; the group will host its annual showcase at Wilkie Auditorium from 5-8 p.m. on April 18.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Bloomington Utilities is set to upgrade West Second Street with critical water infrastructure improvements to bolster roadway modernization. The first phase begins Thursday, Mar. 19 at 6 p.m. along West Second Street from South Walker to South Rogers — work will continue with additional closures through early April.  City of Bloomington
  • Bloomington engineers hosted a meeting on Thursday, Mar. 12 to collect public feedback on a redesign plan to enhance safety on Indiana Avenue between Smith and 10th Streets. The online form remains open until March 30 for suggestions on improving pedestrian and cyclist safety.  Indiana Daily Student

HEALTH NEWS

  • At the Indiana University School of Nursing, professor Sheri Robb has developed Active Music Engagement, a music therapy program for children facing cancer that reduces treatment stress and supports parents, and she plans to expand the program to serve kids with other chronic conditions.  Indiana University

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana baseball fell 3-2 to Oregon Friday after scoring early before Oregon put up three unanswered runs at PK Park in Eugene. The team will face Oregon again at 5:05 p.m. EDT Saturday with top starter Tony Neubeck expected to pitch.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Bloomington South senior Julia Lashley repeated as Herald-Times Girls Basketball Player of the Year (named one of the top players among six IHSAA schools) despite a hand injury that limited her final games; her leadership helped guide the team to win sectionals.  The Herald-Times
