GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington is accepting applications for the 2025 Downtown Outreach grants to support nonprofits helping people affected by opioid addiction — the grants are funded with opioid restricted settlement money. Applicants must submit forms by 5 p.m. on April 11 and winners will be named on May 5.  City of Bloomington
  • Mayor Kerry Thomson will deliver the 2025 State of the City address on April 3 at the Waldron Arts Center at 122 S Walnut St, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation starting at 6 p.m.—a free event that will include a reception and live broadcast on Community Access Television Services.  City of Bloomington
  • Bloomington city council will consider vacating an alley in the Trades District by mid-April to allow Alluinn IU to develop a 150-bed hotel on two vacant parcels north of City Hall — the redevelopment commission approved a resolution at Monday’s meeting, and the hotel is expected to open in the second half of 2026.  The B Square Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana softball lost both of its weekend games against Iowa, dropping to an 0-2 Big Ten record and a 19-7 overall season record—leaving the team to prepare for its next matchup against Notre Dame in South Bend today at 6 p.m. on the ACC Network.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana baseball defeated Ohio State 14-3 on Sunday to sweep the series as key hits from Devin Taylor, Korbyn Dickerson, and freshman catcher Hogan Denny powered the win. The Hoosiers, now 11-9 overall, will play Evansville University today at 6 p.m. at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana men's tennis lost two home matches this weekend—falling to Northwestern and Illinois—which extended their overall losing streak to six. The team will host Michigan State on March 22 as they try to end the streak.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana’s women’s basketball team will play Utah on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia—coach Teri Moren said strong practice sessions and a win over Oregon in the tournament have boosted the team’s confidence despite playing without key players and earning their lowest seed since 2019.  Indiana Daily Student
