COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ira Helfand, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient and anti-nuclear advocate, will speak in Bloomington on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at First United Church — 2420 E. Third St. — on how to prevent nuclear war. Singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer and Robert Meitus will open the event with music as part of a program sponsored by local peace groups.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Over 100 people gathered at the Monroe County Courthouse on March 23rd to protest potential changes to the U.S. Postal Service—workers and supporters said the changes could disrupt mail delivery and employee conditions.  The Herald-Times

  • Local classic car fans have maintained a 20-year tradition by meeting at Hardee’s on most Thursday evenings when the weather is fair—members display a variety of classic cars and trucks at the weekly cruise-in. Although member Mike Piskos was vacationing in Greece during a recent cold night, many enthusiasts still gathered indoors to talk and admire vehicles when conditions improved.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana women’s basketball lost 53 to 64 to South Carolina in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia—Indiana had five turnovers in the third quarter that allowed the Gamecocks to build an 11-point lead before the game ended.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana wrestling reached a historic milestone at the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia from March 20th to 22nd when the Hoosiers tied for a top 25 finish with 18.5 points and DJ Washington earned All-American honors after key wins—an achievement not seen since 2017. Two other wrestlers advanced in the tournament and three qualifiers remain eligible for next season—raising hopes for future success.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Two former Hoosiers, Larry Richardson Jr. and Butch Carter, joined three other players in a lawsuit against IU trustees and trainer Tim Garl. The suit, filed Oct. 15 and later updated to include Garl, claims the university failed to act on complaints about sexual abuse by a former team doctor.  Indiana Daily Student
  • No. 10 Indiana women's water polo lost to No. 8 Arizona State 16-11 in a conference match in Tempe; the team was outscored in the fourth quarter and remains winless in conference play (0-3). The Hoosiers will return home at noon March 29 to face California at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington.  Indiana Daily Student
