GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Van Buren Water Inc.—a nonprofit utility in Bloomington with about 2,500 customers—plans to raise water bills nearly 40% for customers using 4,000 gallons per month, increasing charges from $31.60 to $43.86 to cover operating costs and improve infrastructure. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will hold a public hearing on April 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Monroe Convention Center and accept written comments until April 7.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana Department of Transportation crews will install an all-way stop at the intersection of State Road 45 and Smith Road on or after March 28 in Bloomington. The installation is expected to take up to one day with weather permitting—drivers are urged to slow down as they adjust to the new traffic control.  City of Bloomington

  • On Tuesday, Indiana baseball kicked off its 9-game homestand at Bart Kaufman Field against Bellarmine with starting pitcher Cole Gilley taking the mound at 5 p.m. The game was streamed on Big Ten + and came as the team looked to bounce back after dropping two straight games.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana women’s basketball lost to South Carolina by a score of 64 to 53 in the NCAA Tournament after the Gamecocks outscored the Hoosiers by 14 in the third quarter—coach Teri Moren said the team will add fresh talent in the offseason to build a stronger program.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana women’s basketball guard Julianna LaMendola entered the transfer portal after posting on Instagram that she made the decision with family support+she averaged 2.3 points and 2.1 rebounds in 30 games while coach Teri Moren now works to fill key roster gaps.  The Herald-Times
  • Former Bloomington North basketball standout JQ Roberts announced Monday night on social media that he entered the transfer portal while leaving open the possibility of returning to Vanderbilt. The 6 foot 8 forward played in 21 games this season—with an average of 4.6 minutes per game—and concluded a two-year stay at Vanderbilt.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana women's basketball guard Lexus Bargesser has entered the transfer portal after leading the team in bench minutes over the past two seasons—she makes her move while the portal remains open from March 24 until April 22 as another player also announced her transfer.  The Herald-Times
