CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday, a land-clearing crew discovered what appear to be human remains in a wooded area on Bloomington’s northwest side and police were dispatched about 2:45 p.m. on West Acuff Road—forensic experts have been called to assist with the investigation.  The Bloomingtonian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven IU faculty members were named AAAS Fellows in 2024 for their significant contributions in science and innovation—an honor awarded to 471 professionals nationwide, with 147 now affiliated with IU. The recognition underscores the impact of IU research on advancing knowledge and breakthroughs.  Indiana University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Bloomington is asking residents for input on planned safety improvements along 10th Street between Morton and Indiana Avenues as part of its Safe Streets for All initiative—feedback will guide design choices. A public meeting is scheduled for April 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Mr. Copy on 501 E 10th Street, and residents can also contribute online.  City of Bloomington
  • At a March 26 city council meeting, Matt Flaherty won a 5—4 vote over Andy Ruff to fill the first seat on Bloomington’s new nine member transportation commission, which will guide the city’s transport planning. The move shifts oversight from three previous commissions into one body focused on safer and more sustainable travel.  The B Square Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana’s men’s swimming team set an American record in the 200-yard medley relay on Wednesday at the championship meet in Federal Way by posting a time of 1:20.92 — an achievement that helped them finish fifth. The team also swam their season-best in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a sixth-place finish and now ties for third overall as the four-day meet continues.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Today, Purdue University men's basketball will face Houston at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for a Sweet 16 game with tip time at 10:09 p.m. ET after wins over High Point and McNeese State propelled Purdue forward while Houston advanced with strong three-point shooting. If Purdue wins, it will play the winner of the Kentucky versus Tennessee contest in the Elite Eight on Sunday, March 30 — a matchup that will set the stage for the next round.  WTHR
  • Indiana softball is set to face No. 18 Ohio State in Columbus for a three-game series starting Saturday at 2 p.m.—the team earned two wins last weekend. The Hoosiers will try to match their strong hitting as senior Taylor Minnick and redshirt junior Melina Wilkison lead the lineup against an offense that has set national home run records.  Indiana Daily Student
