  • Bloomington residents visited the Spring Sprout Food Systems Series market Saturday afternoon at First United Church where People’s Cooperative Market hosted local vendors selling food, pottery, and plants and ran a soil blocking workshop in a new greenhouse—IU students managed a booth selling produce and led a presentation on food systems while local experts shared DIY self-care tips—supporting food justice efforts in the community.  Indiana Daily Student

CRIME NEWS

  • A 17-year-old was arrested Saturday evening after a shooting near a Bloomington playground—police said no one was injured when a masked suspect exchanged threats and fired rounds during a fight before officers located him at a nearby residence.  The Bloomingtonian

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Asian Culture Center hosted Asianfest on Kirkwood Avenue with food stands, games and performances to celebrate Asian and Pacific Island heritage before the semester ended — this event kicks off Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Bloomington. More events on the ACC calendar will feature musical shows, discussion sessions and short films.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Nearly 100 people went to a talk at McCalla School as Chris Martin, the sixth generation of the Martin family, told the story of his family's 200-year work in making guitars—he also showed guitars used by Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton. The exhibit is open both in person and online at the school until fall.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Boy in the Bubble held its 25th anniversary show Saturday in the Fine Arts Building where current and former members shared laughter through sketches and stand-up performances. The group combined filmed sketches, live comedy, and musical interludes—highlighting a long tradition of friendship and humor.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The IUB-AAUP executive committee said Xiaofeng Wang’s firing from the Luddy School did not follow ACA-52—there was no notice or hearing as required. The committee asked Provost Shrivastav to reverse the termination and report the next steps at the Faculty Council meeting on April 8.  The B Square Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monroe County veterans and their families can get free help to find important DD-214 discharge documents from the local Veteran Service Office and Recorder’s Office—services that guide them through the process.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana library services are at risk of cuts & longer wait times after an executive order signed on March 14 dismantled the IMLS funding that supports statewide e-book and interlibrary loan programs. Monroe County Public Libraries warned that reduced funding may force local libraries to drop other valuable services.  Indiana Daily Student

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana University said that longtime men’s basketball trainer Tim Garl’s contract will not be renewed, and his last day is Monday. He began his work in 1981 and served under several head coaches — including Bob Knight — as the program seeks a fresh start amid pending lawsuit allegations.  Indiana Daily Student
