COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Monroe County CASA relocated to its new top-floor office in Fountain Square nearly two weeks ago and hosted an open house with over 50 visitors. It will host volunteer appreciation week later this month and a child abuse prevention rally Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the south courthouse lawn.  Indiana Daily Student

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Brightside Cafe began paying for the first two hours of downtown parking for customers who buy at its Fountain Square spot Monday, March 23 to ease tight parking from nearby construction + encouraging visits to local businesses; co-owner Abe Carney said staff will add quarters in meters if it rains.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jacobs Opera and Ballet Theater presents Spring Ballet at the Musical Arts Center with three shows—Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The program features a world premiere ballet, ONE by IU professor Sasha Janes, alongside works by Balanchine and Jessica Lang.  Indiana Daily Student

  • Indiana University Bloomington students are shifting to Stellic as their new course planning system that replaces iGPS for spring and fall 2026; some find it easier for mapping courses while others face challenges + updates are planned to improve its features.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington is working with the BEDC and local partners to help workers impacted by Novo's announced workforce reduction. Mayor Kerry Thomson confirmed the city's plan to connect affected employees with job opportunities and support services.  City of Bloomington

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Bloomington restaurants offer Easter brunches on April 5 with reserved seating at Cardinal Spirits (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and walk-in options at The Elm (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.), plus state park inns with set menus. Dishes range from cinnamon rolls without gluten to eggs benedict and steak sandwiches.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana lost 5-4 in 11 innings at Evansville as a walk-off hit ended their streak, with key plays from Jake Hanley, Owen ten Oever, and Landen Fry. The Hoosiers will return home Friday to Bart Kaufman Field to host Rutgers at 6 p.m.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Edgewood softball opened the season on March 31 with an 11-0 win over Bloomington North. Senior Madi Bland, returning from injury, went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs while her sister Ally struck out nine to help the team show strong unity.  The Herald-Times
  • Freshman Trent Sisley will return next season under coach Darian DeVries — he did not enter the transfer portal after averaging 4.2 points in 30 games this past season. The basketball team plans roster adjustments with six players becoming ineligible.  The Herald-Times
  • Sixteen IU sports media students from Bloomington and Indianapolis will cover the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four and other tournaments in Indianapolis from April 2 to 6; the hands-on reporting experience is designed to build their skills (instructors stress thorough preparation).  Indiana University
  • Indiana football starting left tackle Carter Smith will miss spring practice as he recovers from labral tear surgery on his left shoulder. He hopes to resume weight training soon & be cleared for fall camp, adding a challenge for the team.  The Herald-Times
  • IHSAA announced new sectional assignments for local teams in sports such as basketball, volleyball, football, and soccer on Tuesday, March 31 at 5:03 p.m. The changes affect area schools including Bloomington, Bedford, and Martinsville — teams will face new opponents in upcoming games.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football freshman defensive lineman Kevontay Hugan is no longer on the team roster after his bio was removed from the website — he was not listed on spring practice rosters while Coach Curt Cignetti noted the team's strong defensive line depth.  The Herald-Times
  • On March 31, Indiana University football players practiced drills at the Bloomington campus; wide receiver Nick Marsh (11), quarterback Tyler Cherry (15) and coach Curt Cignetti led the session with support from quarterbacks coach Tino Sunseri.  The Bloomingtonian
