COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Bloomington Inc. is teaming with Downtown Strategies on a five-year plan called 'Connect the Dots' to improve connections from Monroe County Courthouse Square to the IU campus. The project is backed by the city and will recruit teams and launch micro events for local businesses starting in May.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market starts Saturday, April 4 at Showers Common with over a dozen food vendors and 20 farm vendors offering fresh produce, cheese, and meals. Ken and Debbie Wilson will perform at 8:15 and 10 a.m. while the market runs from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Indiana University alum Michael Husain launched The Reelist Indie Film Club for independent documentaries, paying filmmakers up front and offering a free two-month trial with an annual subscription of $89.99 (viewers can also join live Q&A sessions).  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana Repertory Theatre has announced six shows for its 54th season starting Sept. 23. The lineup—featuring 'The Da Vinci Code,' 'Kim’s Convenience,' and more—runs at multiple stages with memberships now available and tickets going on sale this summer.  WTHR
  • Indiana University's Lilly Library acquired David Ben's 50-year magic history collection (which includes manuscripts, photos, and rare books) on Wednesday, Apr. 1. Cataloging work has begun to make the collection accessible for research and display.  Indiana Daily Student

  • Indiana University’s IU CREATE center partners with regional companies to test and improve microchips while training students like Huseyin Amac (a junior in engineering) in advanced microelectronics skills. The initiative boosts local job opportunities and supports the growing semiconductor industry.  Indiana University
  • Indiana University has named its inaugural board for IU Inc., a nonprofit aiming to boost research and economic growth by partnering with industry, startups and government agencies. The organization will begin operations later this year—its board includes leaders from business and higher education.  Indiana University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington Police Department launched the Blue Envelope Program on March 23 to help drivers with autism show key documents during stops, aiming to improve communication and ease stress; residents can pick up free envelopes at 220 E. Third St. or at City Hall.  Indiana Daily Student

SPORTS NEWS

  • After losing 5-4 to UCLA in the quarterfinals, Indiana softball travels to Los Angeles for a three-game series — a rematch of last season — starting today at 10 p.m. at Easton Stadium, with follow-up games on Saturday at 9 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana football held its Pro Day at Mellencamp Pavilion on Wednesday, April 1 to showcase 23 draft-eligible players, including projected top pick Fernando Mendoza and fast runner D’Angelo Ponds; former defensive end Mikail Kamara said the event could serve as a lasting pipeline to the NFL.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana coach Curt Cignetti said transfer quarterback Josh Hoover will work on reducing turnovers and practicing with more urgency at spring camp after joining to replace Fernando Mendoza.   • On April 1 at Bill Armstrong Stadium, women cyclists competed in the Little 500 time trials; Teter’s rider posted the fastest time while six teams finished in varying orders in the historic race that launched in 1988.  Indiana Daily Student
