- ➤ Bloomington residents can sign up to volunteer for the Hoosier Half Marathon on April 12 with shifts from 6:30 a.m. through noon, take part in three Global Youth Service Day events on April 22, April 24 and April 25, and join the Adopt-A-Drain program to keep storm drains clear—donations are also requested to support Tandem Community Birth Center and Postpartum House. - ➤ Heavy rains over the weekend caused flash flooding and rising rivers across Monroe, Morgan and Owen counties — officials reported that rescues occurred in Ellettsville when Jacks Defeat Creek overflowed and Lake Lemon residents were cut off as roads closed. The floodwaters damaged homes and businesses downtown and a man died in Morgan County when he was swept into a culvert while clearing debris. The Herald-Times

- ➤ Gov. Mike Braun signed a law on Thursday that makes it safer for young people to call for help in alcohol emergencies. Senate Bill 74 now stops charges for minors who call 911 if they give their full name, stay at the scene and work with police. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ The light white lines on the asphalt on 6th Street and College Avenue come from a brine pretreatment applied by Bloomington public works (getting the road ready for the overnight freeze). The B Square Bulletin
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The USDA recalled Johnsonville Cheddar bratwursts made on February 5 due to possible plastic fragments found by consumers. About 22,672 pounds of the product sold in 10 states — including Indiana — are affected and no injuries have been reported. The Herald-Times
