- ➤ The City of Bloomington will open its newest park, Hopewell Commons, at 332 W. University St. on April 23 with a grand celebration from 3:30 p.m. featuring live music, food trucks, games, and activities—part of the broader Hopewell neighborhood redevelopment of the former IU Health hospital site. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ IU’s InMotion Dance Company held its annual FUSION showcase Saturday at the IU Auditorium — the event celebrated 25 years with 41 dance numbers performed by over 100 undergraduates. The performance featured jazz, hip hop, tap, contemporary and lyrical styles and honored the alumni who shaped the club. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ The Cream and Crimson Carnival returns for its third year and will be held Friday night at IU with a western theme that offers rides, games, food and live country music by twin singers Kelly and Sarah. Student organizer Stephanie Vasquez and IMU program coordinator Hayley Griffith planned the event after noticing a trend in western motifs at T.J. - ➤ WIUX will host its 37th Culture Shock music festival on April 12 in Dunn Meadow—this free event features independent, touring, and local student-led bands to mark the end of the school year, with local act Mourning Star opening from 12:45 to 1:20 p.m. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ IU student comedy groups will showcase the Funny 501 festival on two nights starting tomorrow at 8 p.m. in room 015 of the Fine Arts building—on the first night, sketch comedy and five-minute stand-up sets by Ladies’ Night will be featured—and on the second night, improv sets and an Improv Jam will allow cross-group collaboration. - ➤ The IU School of Medicine DEI Coalition has launched a steps challenge fundraiser to support its diversity programs amid anti-DEI actions. - ➤ The Bloomington/Monroe County Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations for the 2025 Human Rights Award – it honors local individuals or groups who work to improve civil rights.
