Good morning, Bloomington. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 11th of April.

CRIME NEWS

  • An IU student was charged with burglary and voyeurism for allegedly recording a woman showering in Mason Hall on Oct. 23—he was released on bond and will face an initial hearing on Apr. 25.  WTHR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • IU Libraries analyst Nianli Ma was terminated on March 24 at 8:49 a.m. without a stated reason—her firing came four days before FBI agents searched her Carmel home and professor Xiaofeng Wang’s Bloomington residence after his termination on March 28.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At the City Council meeting, councilmembers focused on Bloomington's 2026 budget by urging more funding for road repairs and changes to the Unified Development Ordinance to boost affordable housing and improve transportation. The Special Fiscal Committee will release a priority list April 16 and the full Council will vote on it April 30—further budget discussions are planned for late July.  Indiana Daily Student

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana overcame a 2 to 0 first inning deficit with a five-run third inning to secure a 7 to 5 win over Ball State on Tuesday at Bart Kaufman Field—Korbyn Dickerson drove in two runs with a long home run while freshmen Cooper Malamazian and Will Moore added key RBIs. The pitching staff held off a late threat to boost Indiana’s record to 19 to 14, and the team will begin a three-game series today at 7 p.m. at Illinois Field.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana softball will try to extend its five game win streak in a three game series against Wisconsin at Goodman Softball Complex in Madison starting today at 5 p.m. after an 8 to 3 win over Louisville. The team has a nation-leading .384 batting average and will try to improve its 1 to 2 away record to climb the Big Ten standings while Wisconsin holds a 6 to 7 record.  Indiana Daily Student
  • A Wall Street Journal analysis by IU-Columbus finance professor Ryan Brewer valued the Indiana basketball program at $279 million — ranking it behind North Carolina at $378 million and Duke at $370 million. The report shows that a high financial valuation does not ensure on-court success, as Indiana did not make the NCAA Tournament while Purdue reached the Sweet 16.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti said that the team did not bring enough energy at Thursday's practice — he warned that too many players appeared unprepared and inconsistent. He noted that a closed scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday and the spring game will take place next Thursday under the lights at Memorial Stadium.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana's men's soccer dominated their exhibition match Tuesday morning against Southern Indiana FC with an 8-0 win as transfer Jacopo Fedrizzi scored two goals—helping a defense that limited the opponent to only two shots. The Hoosiers will face Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. today at Grand Park Sports Campus.  Indiana Daily Student
