COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bloomington will host its fourth annual Earth Day celebration on Saturday, Apr. 18 at Switchyard Park from noon to 3:30 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will feature live music (Busman’s Holiday, Peyton Womock), a sand mandala art project, free native tree seedlings and tech donations for schools.  City of Bloomington

CULTURE NEWS

  • Asianfest 2026 returns to the Buskirk-Chumley Theater today with cultural tables from 4-6 p.m. and live shows from 7-8:30 p.m., offering free food and activities that celebrate AAPI heritage organized by the Asian Culture Center at IU.  The Herald-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at the IU School of Optometry lab in Bloomington learn to cut and fit lenses while making 60-75 reading glasses that are donated to the Monroe County Public Library and community programs. The hands-on training helps them understand the full eyewear-making process.  Indiana University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Transit authorities plan to reconfigure routes and deploy new 60‑ft articulated buses to address a 16% drop in fixed‑route ridership—especially on campus routes—with expanded microtransit options. Combining Routes 3 and 13 as a 90‑minute loop, public feedback meetings are scheduled for May 4, May 6, and May 7.  The B Square Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • Small Talk Pediatric Therapy will open its fourth pediatric clinic at the old Laserlite site (4505 E. Third St.) on May 4. The Bloomington location will provide speech, occupational, physical and mental health therapy and a motor skills gym to address long wait lists.  Indiana Daily Student

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana baseball won 11-3 over Maryland on Friday at Bob 'Turtle' Smith Stadium in College Park after a six-run sixth inning helped secure the win. They will face Maryland again Saturday at 2 p.m.+ the team looks to extend its three-game streak.  Indiana Daily Student
