  • Indiana Recovery Alliance is hosting a community walk and cleanup today at noon at 1710 W. Third St (participants will walk to Baked! of Bloomington at 115 N. Washington St).  The Bloomingtonian

  • Tacos Al Pastor opened a new restaurant at 620 W. Kirkwood Ave after success with its food truck on South Leonard Springs Road. Owners Mauricio Ocampo and Aida serve a varied menu (open daily 11 a.m.–10 p.m.) and plan to add patio seating when warmer.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian Caleb Hearon delivered a humorous talk at IU Auditorium Tuesday at 7 p.m. as part of the Granfalloon arts festival (presented by the IU Arts and Humanities Council), where he shared personal struggles with depression and offered practical advice while moderated by IU Union Board director Lucy Gray.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hoosier Hills Career Center’s Agriculture Department and FFA chapter will host a student-run plant sale from April 30 to May 2 at the greenhouse on 3070 N. Prow Road. The sale — featuring over 75 varieties of plants and planter boxes — accepts cash and tap-to-pay.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Charles H. Webb, former dean of the Jacobs School of Music, died April 13 at age 93. A memorial service will be announced soon (he is survived by four sons and 10 grandchildren).  The Herald-Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Public health experts warn Bloomington residents to use tick prevention measures as warmer weather sparks early tick season—two locals reported blacklegged ticks via the county survey in March and doctors expect more tick bite cases, urging use of repellents and regular checks.  The Herald-Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bloomington’s plan commission approved a 360-unit residential project at the Iron and Metal site on North Rogers Street on April 13. The development includes three buildings, a parking garage, public paths, and conditions for environmental testing & utility upgrades.  The B Square Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • After going undrafted Monday night, Bloomington guard Shay Ciezki signed with the Phoenix Mercury — she averaged 22.8 points per game last season and became one of two NCAA players to join the 50-40-90 club.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Center Samet Yiğitoğlu, a transfer from SMU, has committed to Indiana men's basketball. The 7 foot 2 center averaged 10.7 points and 7.9 rebounds last season and will add size for the Hoosiers under coach Darian DeVries.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana baseball overcame a 5-run deficit to beat Indiana State 17-12 in Terre Haute on Tuesday; the Hoosiers return home tonight at 6 p.m. to host the University of Evansville at Bart Kaufman Stadium.  Indiana Daily Student
