BUSINESS NEWS

  • IU junior Bodhi Beber is launching his new protein snack brand Muscle Mochi, a healthy treat made in his Bloomington apartment. He signed a lease on a manufacturing warehouse starting May 1 — local outlets like Iron Pit Gym and Twin Lakes Recreation Center are set to carry the mochi by late July or early August.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana University is considering bringing back the bison as its official mascot after the Student Government passed a bill following a student poll favoring the native animal. The move honors Indiana’s history, but the bison remains in limbo until the university makes an official decision — the plan could bring more unity to the community.  Indiana Daily Student

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • IU researchers are studying ways to cool the Earth by adding sunlight-reflecting particles to the sky and brightening ocean clouds — a trick that copies how a volcano cools the air — while they warn these ideas come with real risks.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Transportation is hosting an in-person open house on April 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bloomington City Hall — the public can learn about and comment on the Draft 2026-2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program. A virtual open house will occur on April 24 at 5 p.m. — community members can submit their comments on the program until May 15.  City of Bloomington
  • An Indiana State Police news release on April 21 warned that a Facebook post falsely claims a missing Bloomington Police officer is being sought and a Silver Alert has been issued—using a real officer's details to trick people into giving up personal data as multiple posts circulate the scam.  The Herald-Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Friday, IU's Collegiate Recovery Community hosted a cookout for students recovering from substance use to share their journeys and learn about local support—coordinator Samantha Reitz said the event aimed to connect students with recovery resources while providing a safe, social space. Attendees enjoyed Jimmy John's sandwiches, lawn games, and free plants as they built community during the event.  Indiana Daily Student

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sigma Alpha Epsilon led for over 100 laps in the 2024 Little 500 but finished sixth as their strong early pace faded. The team trains every day+ and will compete on April 26+ aiming for redemption in the race.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana water polo beat Michigan 14-11 on Senior Day at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington as key goals by seniors like Portia Sasser and Skylar Kidd drove the win. The team celebrated its seniors—earning special cheers—and will face USC next Friday at 2 p.m. EST at the Spieker Aquatic Center in Los Angeles at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Redshirt sophomore Korbyn Dickerson helped Indiana win a 15 to 5 rubber match against Maryland on Sunday at Bart Kaufman Field with two home runs and six RBIs to secure a 2 to 1 series win — the Hoosiers will face Ball State University on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Victory Field.  Indiana Daily Student
