  • City officials and community members gathered Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the grand opening of Hopewell Commons Park—Bloomington’s newest green space on the former IU Health Bloomington Hospital campus.  The Bloomingtonian

CULTURE NEWS

  • IU Soul Revue, America’s first collegiate Black popular music group led by professor James Strong, will perform its spring concert today at Buskirk-Chumley Theater—featuring funk, soul and R&B to celebrate the African American Arts Institute’s 50th anniversary, with a second show at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Monroe County Community School Corporation appointed Aja Jester as District 7 representative in a board meeting on Tuesday after Brandon Shurr resigned on March 13 — she will serve until 2026.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana lawmakers sent Senate Bill 289 to Gov. Mike Braun after the House voted 64—26 and the Senate 34—16 on April 24th; the bill would bar public institutions from taking actions based on race, religion, color and sex while allowing lawsuits only for actual damages, court costs and attorney fees. Lawmakers expect the governor to sign the bill soon as it follows similar bans on DEI efforts from executive orders issued earlier this year.  The Herald-Times

  • Indiana basketball added Elon guard Nick Dorn as the eighth transfer for new coach Darien Devries after he committed on Thursday night during a visit to Bloomington — the 6-foot-7 player averaged 15.2 points per game and 3.0 made 3-pointers per game last season and has two years of eligibility remaining.  The Herald-Times
  • After a two-week road trip, Indiana softball won 14-1 over Ball State at Andy Mohr Field on Wednesday as senior pitcher Brianna Copeland delivered a shutout performance—improving the team to 30-13. The Hoosiers will face No. 7 Oregon in a series that begins at 6 p.m. today.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana head coach Teri Moren hired former Alabama assistant Colsten Thompson as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the upcoming 2025-26 season — replacing Linda Sayavongchanh according to an Athletics release. Thompson worked at Alabama, Lipscomb and Louisiana Tech and will join the team with his wife Mackenzie and daughter Tanner in Bloomington.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Judah Thompson, a junior with CUTTERS, finished second last year and is working hard to win this year’s Little 500 championship. The team plans to improve on their 2:31.873 qualification time and follow coach Jim Kirkham’s advice to race faster and stay in control on track.  Indiana Daily Student
