ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 26 at 2:28 p.m., a Mercury Milan drove the wrong way on State Road 46 near Bloomington and crashed head-on into a Buick and a Mercedes-Benz—witnesses said the Mercury driver was taken to IU Health and pronounced dead while the other drivers sustained injuries.  WTHR

CULTURE NEWS

  • After the women's Little 500 win at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Friday, Bloomington students celebrated by gathering at downtown bars and along Kirkwood Avenue—firemen attended a live wire incident near Yogi's as late-night revelers continued to enjoy the festivities.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SB 287 passed on April 24 and now awaits the governor's signature—if it becomes law this summer, school board candidates can list a political party, run as independents, or leave the field blank unless challenged. Critics say this change may make school board elections more political and affect how candidates, like those in Monroe County, campaign for their positions.  The B Square Bulletin

  • Sigma Alpha Epsilon led most of the men’s Little 500 at Bill Armstrong Stadium but lost their advantage when Black Key Bulls maintained a steady pace after SAE made a late rider change. Junior rider Luke Lemme’s effort helped clinch a second-place finish, and coach Bill Naas said the team feels the loss deeply + they plan to rebuild for next season.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Former Indiana football players signed NFL undrafted free agent deals after the draft; offensive lineman Trey Wedig joined the Rams (he started 13 games at IU), while receiver Myles Price signed with the Vikings and receiver Ke'Shawn Williams signed with the Steelers.  The Herald-Times
  • Former Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke was drafted in the seventh round as the 227th overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday after rehabbing from a torn ACL, and coach Kyle Shanahan said he would have been picked higher if healthy. Rourke set records at Indiana by throwing for 3,042 yards and 29 touchdowns—his selection shows the team’s confidence as he prepares for training camp.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana University's CJ West and quarterback Kurtis Rourke were selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Draft on Saturday+ West was picked 113th overall and became the highest-drafted IU defensive player in decades, while Rourke, who led the team to a record 11 wins, became only the second Canadian-raised quarterback drafted.  The Bloomingtonian
