- ➤ A Spencer resident offered a $50 breezeway motor to Bloomington teen Aaron Greenberg, who began restoring his 1967 Mercury Monterey in March to fix its rolling back window before he gets his driver’s license later this year. A car show and breakfast fundraiser for Cars for Keeps will be held at Hurlow Wealth Management on May 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. to help low-income residents secure reliable transportation. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Indiana University issued a crime notice after four burglaries were reported between April 14 and April 23 from campus residence halls and a fraternity house — the IU Police are investigating with a possible lead in the fraternity house incident. The Bloomingtonian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Federal cuts have ended programs that supplied over $4.4 million in local produce to schools, so schools may have to buy less local food this year—local farms that invested in new equipment and crops for school meals now face losses and are working with councils to seek low-interest loans and new markets. - ➤ On April 17th, a federal appeals court upheld an NLRB ruling that found Starbucks broke labor laws by disciplining workers for union activity at stores in Ann Arbor and Jacksonville— the ruling orders Starbucks to reinstate affected employees, remove related records, and post worker rights notices. Union supporters at several stores including those in Bloomington continue to campaign for better protections— the decision adds to growing scrutiny of the company’s labor practices. - ➤ On April 25 at Bill Armstrong Stadium, Kappa Alpha Theta won the women's Little 500 race after a crash on the fourth lap—marking their 10th win in the event. On April 26, Black Key Bulls won the men's Little 500 race in a 200-lap contest with 33 teams that ended around 4:45 p.m. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ Indiana softball tried to rally after falling behind 8 to 2 in their final regular season home game against No. 7 Oregon Sunday but could only score 5 to 1 in the last two innings, losing 9 to 7 and getting swept in the series.
