- ➤ Brian Noojin, a Rural Transit driver for six months, drove a long Friday route on April 25 that took him over 150 miles across Monroe County and picked up regular riders such as Jaelynn Portteus and her son for school and medical appointments. He built close bonds with about 30 regular passengers—ensuring each person reached their destination on time—and kept a careful schedule throughout his 11-hour day. Indiana Daily Student
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, April 26, a wrong-way driver in a 2007 Mercury Milan crashed head-on into a Gray Buick Enclave on Ind. 46 near Hunter Valley Road at 2:30 p.m.—two other drivers, one in an SUV and one in a Mercedes Benz, suffered non-life-threatening injuries while the Mercury driver died. - ➤ At Bloomington’s State of the City event, police chief Mike Diekhoff said violent crime dropped 24.3% (from 259 to 196) over the last year because a 35% decline in aggravated assault drove the overall drop while other violent crimes remained the same. The B Square Bulletin

- ➤ Two IU Indianapolis students—Malachi Aklilu and Rachel Schweiger—have received national scholarships; Aklilu will study Turkish in Turkey under the Critical Language Scholarship this summer while Schweiger has been awarded the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship to support her research in biology and neuroscience. Indiana University

- ➤ Today, an incoming cold front will bring strong to severe storms to most of Indiana with the first round expected from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a second round from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Storm Prediction Center places the area under a Level 2 threat — hail is likely in the morning with damaging wind gusts later, and a wet pattern will continue through Friday.
