BUSINESS NEWS

  • A TikTok video spurred long lines at Two Sticks Bakery when customers flocked for the banana bread latte—however, owner Amanda Armstrong said the small kitchen and strict quality focus meant the bakery will stay small and not expand to a second location. The business later removed the banana bread syrup from the menu to return to its regular operations.  Indiana Daily Student

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal agents served a warrant and apprehended a person wanted on a federal warrant at the Charlotte Zietlow Justice Center in Bloomington Tuesday morning—officials did not release the suspect’s identity, immigration status, or details about the alleged crime.  The Herald-Times
  • FBI agents arrested an individual yesterday at the Monroe County Justice Center on a federal warrant from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana (the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said it was not involved), and details about the charges were not released.  The Bloomingtonian

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mayor declared June 27 Godzilla Day to kick off Godzilla Weekend, a three-day festival organized by Beth Bredlau—an art history graduate student—featuring three film screenings in Bloomington. Upland Brewery will sponsor the event and Deputy Mayor Gretchen Knapp will read the proclamation—local partners are set to join future collaborations—at the festival.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven IU-affiliated Nobel Prize winners, including Philip H. Dybvig and Elinor Ostrom, Renato Dulbecco, Salvador Luria, Johannes Hans Daniel Jensen, James Watson, and Hermann Muller, were honored over decades for research on bank crises, economic governance, viruses that cause cancer, virus replication, atomic structure, DNA, and gene mutations. Their work (spanning mathematics and physics to microbiology) highlights a long history of research excellence (connecting IU’s campus to global breakthroughs).  Indiana Daily Student
  • IU students visited Ernie Pyle Hall on Monday during College Care Week's Puppy Love Day to pet friendly dogs and cats—organized by the Walter Center for Career Achievement—to ease stress before finals.   • Bloomington looked busy in April with legal filings in two annexation cases — the city filed a petition to move a constitutional case to the Indiana Supreme Court and replied to remonstrators in a trial case over Areas 1A and 1B, while final decisions may take several months.  The B Square Bulletin

  • The Big Ten college football coaches rankings list Ohio State’s Ryan Day as No. 1 because he is one of only three active coaches with a national championship win—others include Penn State’s James Franklin and Indiana’s Curt Cignetti, with Lincoln Riley falling to ninth despite past successes.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana men's golf finished eighth at the Big Ten Championships held from April 25 to 27 at Baltimore Country Club after a strong start gave way to a shaky final round that pushed the team to 21 over par among 18 teams. The roster now awaits the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regionals selection show today at 1 p.m. on Golf Channel — a key step after top-20 finishes by individual players.  Indiana Daily Student
