- ➤ The Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools and the Kiwanis Club of South Central Indiana hosted their first Duck Race Festival on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Woolery Mill where 3,426 yellow rubber ducks raced in a fountain as children rode tricycles, played carnival games, and listened to live music; prizes (including $2,500 for first place and a chance to win $50,000) were awarded with all funds supporting local schools. - ➤ The City of Bloomington will host its annual Juneteenth celebration at Switchyard Park on June 13 from 2 to 9 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will feature live music starting at 6:10 p.m. by DJ Darran Mosley, a vendor market with local Black-owned businesses, food truck offerings, and health services provided by the Bloomington Fire Department and Indiana University Hoosier Health Check teams. - ➤ Bloomington's redevelopment commission approved two leases at its Monday meeting. Weddle Brothers received a temporary zero-dollar lease to use part of the former Bunger & Robertson building at 4th Street and College Avenue as a field office for the convention center expansion while K23 Films secured a 363 square foot lease in The Forge technology center — raising occupancy there to about 69%. - ➤ Bloomington's redevelopment commission approved nearly $22,000 in neighborhood improvement grants on Monday for three projects—one to create a native plant corridor, another to add a name to a neighborhood gate, and a third to restore cemetery headstones.
