  • Chick-fil-A’s eastside restaurant closed on May 11 for a month-long remodel (adding a drive-thru lane and updated interiors) to improve service; while breakfast is unavailable there, customers can get lunch and dinner at College Mall using the mobile app for curbside pickup.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Folk artist and filmmaker Otis Gibbs will screen his new film (A Love Letter To Handsome John) at Buskirk-Chumley Theater on May 29, featuring a 54-minute portrait of singer-songwriter Todd Snider and his gratitude for John Prine; Gibbs captured the footage over several years leading up to Snider's passing.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Granfalloon announced its summer concert series at Switchyard Park, featuring three evenings of live music. Waxahatchee with Kathleen Edwards perform on Jun. 20, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings on Jul. 18, and Durand Jones & The Indications with guests on Aug. 29, with free family activities planned each weekend.  Indiana University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana University professor Douglas Edmonds has been awarded the William R. Dickinson Medal for his groundbreaking research on river floods + soil loss that may affect farmland and water supplies. His field studies near the White River offer new insights into sediment and erosion.  Indiana University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A sidewalk at 9th and Morton was jackhammered for excavation to improve stormwater drainage and keep water from funneling into a nearby building (reported May 11).  The B Square Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Maryland Eastern Shore guard Justin Monden committed Tuesday to Indiana men's basketball—he played under assistant Thomas Carr in high school and increased his scoring at previous colleges. With one year remaining, he boosts the backcourt as the team, with 12 scholarship players, can add up to three more transfers.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana basketball announced its Big Ten schedule for next season with home games versus Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State and road trips against Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Washington; Purdue, Maryland, and Northwestern are set for double meetups and dates will be finalized in September.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington North’s inaugural boys volleyball team, with a 7—5 record led by seniors Coen Berin and Gavin Hodgson, will begin the Martinsville Sectional Wednesday and face a semifinal match Saturday at 11 a.m. Head coach Charles Cook said positive feedback from officials highlights the team’s steady growth.  The Herald-Times
