EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana University (IU) paused its expressive activity policy banning overnight camping and tent use after a federal judge ruled on May 29 that it likely violates First Amendment rights. The ruling noted the policy burdens more speech than necessary for campus safety (a response to mid-2024 protests).  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana University will recommend that in-state tuition and fees remain unchanged for the next two school years and may raise most graduate program fees by up to 2%—this move reflects its commitment to access and affordability. The IU Board of Trustees will hold a public forum at Henke Hall of Champions on June 12 at 12:15 p.m. for public comments, which can be submitted by June 10.  WTHR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington earned an 'A' score for environmental transparency from CDP based on its 2024 disclosure — a top ranking achieved by only 112 cities worldwide. City officials credit local departments, residents and businesses for working together to advance climate action and resilience.  City of Bloomington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monroe Convention Center will be renamed the Bloomington Convention Center as the city upgrades it with more than 70,000 square feet of meeting space and an exhibit hall, joined by a bridge on College Avenue. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on June 3, a 225-room hotel is planned, and the project is set to finish in 2027—bringing more visitors to the city.  WRTV
