EDUCATION NEWS

  • Edgewood High School held its graduation on Saturday morning with 190 Mustang students receiving diplomas. Principal Dirk Ackerman, retiring after 20 years, gave a heartfelt farewell speech that earned a standing ovation.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington High School South held its graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 30 (marking the end of another academic year) as students received diplomas and tossed caps with cheers from family and friends.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bloomington North won the boys track regional on May 28 with 144 points, outpacing competitors such as South's 59½ + teams from Columbus North and Edgewood. Coach Justin Helmer said injuries did not stop the Cougars from setting new records as they now prepare for state competition.  The Herald-Times
  • Edgewood softball won its sectional title Thursday with a 13-0 victory over Cascade, thanks to strong pitching by Ally Bland and a powerful offensive display. The Mustangs (27-4) will travel to New Palestine on June 2 for a regional matchup at 7 p.m.  The Herald-Times
  • Former Indiana quarterback Brendan Sorsby admitted in court documents that he placed nearly 2,900 bets, wagering over $30,000 on IU games during 2022 before stopping when he joined the active roster. He, who has a gambling disorder, later transferred to Cincinnati.  The Herald-Times
  • Former IU quarterback Brendan Sorsby placed thousands of dollars in bets as a Hoosiers freshman and later transferred to Texas Tech after being ruled ineligible. He completed a 35-day treatment program for gambling addiction and is now seeking reinstatement while Texas Tech appeals the NCAA decision.  WTHR
