COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Donated vintage items are set for sale at the Monroe County History Center's Garage Sale Extravaganza in a 33,000-square-foot warehouse (4015 Profile Parkway), featuring unique pieces like a mid-century wedding dress, fine china, and rare art. The sale will be held on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with a clearance sale on Monday, June 16 from 9 a.m. until noon.  The Herald-Times
  • On June 14, a protest called 'No Kings' will take place in Bloomington (noon to 3 p.m. EDT at the Monroe County Courthouse) to challenge a costly military parade in Washington. Organizers say the event will offer local residents a chance to stand up against authoritarianism.  The Herald-Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters from Monroe Fire Protection District and Ellettsville Fire Department fought a structure fire early Monday on W Deckard Drive in Bloomington that caused a home's roof to collapse — no injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.  The Bloomingtonian

CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old Lawrence County man was arrested in Bedford after a violent fight in an alley near Kirkwood Avenue on June 7 that left a 19-year-old Spencer man with a deep stab wound and bruises; he was booked at Monroe County Jail at 8:30 p.m. on June 8 (bond set at $10,500) as police search for two more suspects.  The Herald-Times
  • Gunshots were fired at 1:45 a.m. on June 10 at a Bloomington business at 1915 S. Walnut Street during a party—police found three bullet holes and spent 9mm casings with no injuries reported and no arrests made yet.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Bloomington Police said that three shots were fired into a bathroom during an employee after party at Chop Shop Market & Table early on June 8 at a strip mall on South Walnut Street—no one was injured and the suspect fled before officers arrived.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington's city council approved over $500K in funding for 35 social service agencies last Wednesday as part of the Jack Hopkins funding program (which has awarded over $6M since its start). Local officials say the move comes amid concerns over potential federal cuts.  The B Square Bulletin

  • Bloomington South’s boys golf team will compete at the IHSAA regional at Country Oaks on June 12 at 8:30 a.m.—junior Colton Watson and Carson Gady return as the top two players to keep the team’s state streak alive.  The Herald-Times
  • Six high school athletes, including Bloomington South's David Kovacs + North's Jay Stewart, will receive $1,000 scholarships and be honored at the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame Awards Banquet on July 2 at the Monroe Convention Center, where key athletes, coaches and contributors are recognized.  The Herald-Times
