COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Former McCalla School students will gather on Saturday, June 14th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to reconnect, view guided tours, and share memories of the historic school; the reunion will display oral histories, artifacts, and photos that honor McCalla’s legacy — a cherished part of Bloomington’s past.  The Bloomingtonian

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 7 at around 1 a.m., a man was attacked and stabbed by three men outside a popular bar on Kirkwood Avenue near South Dunn Street while leaving with his friends; police later arrested 18-year-old Braxton Pavey, who admitted having a knife during the fight.  WTHR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington invites local nonprofits to apply for up to $55,000 in funding from the Digital Opportunity Grants program from June 16 to July 16 to help bridge the digital divide—an informational Zoom meeting is scheduled at 1 p.m. on June 18 for further details.  City of Bloomington
  • Bloomington Parks and Recreation has launched a process to develop its new five-year Master Plan and invites residents to complete a three-question survey on ExplorePlayConnect.com. The plan will guide park services—covering programming, environmental care and financial sustainability—with 110% Inc. of Salida leading further community engagement later this fall.  City of Bloomington
  • The Bloomington Fire Department expanded Safe Haven Baby Box access by opening a new box at Fire Station #2—209 S. Fairfield Drive and re-opening the box at Fire Station #1—300 E. Fourth St after a previous flooding closure. The project was funded by a $10,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and featured a blessing ceremony on June 11 at 1 p.m. with local officials.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Bloomington Parks and Recreation launched its five-year master plan process on June 11 by inviting residents to complete a three-question survey (available online) to help shape future parks and recreation strategies.   • Indiana golfers Adam Schenk & Matt Vogt have qualified for the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh with Schenk set to tee off at 12:52 p.m. today and Vogt at 6:45 a.m. today. Schenk, a four-time competitor who qualified in May, earned his spot while Vogt, who once caddied at Oakmont, qualified in June & will make his U.S. Open debut.  WTHR
  • Indiana basketball is booming as the Pacers reached the NBA Finals after winning a home game on Wednesday — thrilling local fans — while the Fever plan to have Caitlin Clark return on Saturday after her quadriceps injury. Coach Rick Carlisle said the city's packed venues and high energy — a sign of deep local love for the game — mark a historic moment for Hoosiers.  WTHR
