- ➤ Bloomington’s RDC approved a revised agreement with Alluinn IU Trades District Hotel LLC for the $1.2 million sale of two city-owned parcels in the Trades District, with the planned hotel set to open by September. The RDC also approved a plan to renovate The Mill (the historic Showers Brothers furniture factory building) by adding coworking stations and offices, with work scheduled to begin January 1. - ➤ Bloomington police arrested Hyun Joon Kim on Saturday, June 14 after he allegedly threatened protesters during the 'No Kings' rally at North Walnut Street and West Kirkwood Avenue—witnesses said Kim smashed windows with a stick and yelled at the crowd before bystanders held him down until police arrived. - ➤ The City of Bloomington announced the 2025 Arts Project Grants to fund local public arts projects that will enrich the community’s culture. More than $60,000 was awarded from city funds and the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association to support film screenings, theatre productions, exhibitions, and other programs — with additional grant cycles open later in the year. - ➤ Bloomington city council initiated a zoning change for single-resident occupancy housing last November and the related statutory deadline for a plan commission vote will be missed by about three months. The plan commission will continue its public hearing on July 14 and is expected to postpone its vote until August 11 as the council plans to renew the proposal on July 16 — a move to meet state legal requirements.
