Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 23rd of June.
Good morning, Bloomington.
On Tuesday, June 24 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., My Sister's Closet will hold a fundraiser, ribbon-cutting, and art reveal at its new home on West Second Street and Patterson Drive featuring Joe LaMantia’s 16-foot Lady Liberty sculpture inspired by the 19th Amendment and bicycling women.
The nonprofit will raise funds for a $300K renovation and also unveil two new bike racks that highlight equality and freedom.
Bloomington photographer Darbi Hoag started Project Alf nearly a decade ago after choosing an older dog from a shelter and now offers photography sessions that capture aging dogs and other pets in candid shots.
Her business provides three session packages (including a Rainbow Bridge session for pets at end of life) and helps sponsor adoption fees for senior animals.
Monroe County will spend over $6.1 million to upgrade the soccer fields at Karst Farm Park by adding three new turf fields, better drainage with an $80,000 flood-mitigation upgrade, LED lights, and ADA-compliant parking improvements.
The new fields will be ready by spring and are funded by ARPA, bonds, and local contributions—ensuring play even when it rains.
