COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Monroe County Fair will start early on June 28 with events at the fairgrounds on W. Airport Road and open its carnival rides on July 1 until July 6—new features include pre-sale ride tickets at a reduced price, a $10 monster truck ride preview on June 30 at 4 p.m., and a free breakfast with the Fair Queen on July 2.  The Herald-Times
  • The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network offers several roles including food pantry attendants at Crawford Apartments on Monday afternoons—volunteers 16 and older help load, pack, and deliver food—and delivery drivers for Pantry 279 on select weekdays with insured vehicles. The Bloomington Community Orchard will host weekly Work and Learn Days at 2120 S. Highland Ave. through November, and Monroe and Greene counties have activated a Tornado Relief Fund to help neighbors recover from the May 16 twister.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington Fire Department has become Monroe County’s first permanent station for fitting child car seats at its headquarters at 320 W. 8th St., Suite 220—trained MIH staff, who installed 45 seats to date, now offer free fittings for eligible parents and caregivers who receive state aid and drive licensed vehicles.  City of Bloomington

HEALTH NEWS

  • The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Monroe County until 8 p.m. June 27, with temperatures in the low to mid 90s and a heat index that could reach 105 degrees in the afternoons. Cooling stations at Monroe fire stations, public libraries and city pools in Bloomington will offer temporary relief—providing safe spots to cool down.  The Herald-Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In Monroe County, the median home price in May was $425,000, up 4.4% from April's $407,000. Homes averaged 1,994 square feet with 200 new listings added—indicating a steady market rise compared to last May.  The Herald-Times
