COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community Access Television Services is digitizing about 60,000 videos at the Monroe County Public Library for library cardholders to borrow, view, or acquire recordings— the archive includes local government meetings and community events that abide by First Amendment guidelines.  The Herald-Times
  • Hoosier Trails Council announced that it appointed Randy Saunders as its new Scout Executive effective June 1st, overseeing operations in 18 counties and more than 130 Scouting units in south-central Indiana. He brings over 20 years of Scouting leadership experience from roles in California, Florida, and New Mexico — and he will lead efforts to expand membership and key programs.  Indiana Daily Student

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local dancers, poets, and musicians transformed downtown spaces during an 'Ordinary Pilgrimage' performance that began last Friday at the courthouse and ended at the History Center. The final show on Sunday at 2 p.m. featured improvised art and live music—tickets were available on a sliding scale.  The Bloomingtonian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington submitted its application for nearly $1 billion from the federal Safe Streets for All grant program by the June 26 deadline, using its 2024-approved safety action plan to back projects that include improved lighting, enhanced crosswalks, and upgraded traffic signals—efforts that support the city’s goal of zero traffic deaths by 2039. Local officials and civic groups provided letters of support in the application.  The B Square Bulletin
  • Today, construction in downtown Bloomington begins on the expanded convention center, which will close the eastern parking lane on College Avenue, the southern eastbound lane on Third Street, and the left turn lane on Walnut Street. The closures will last through September—demolition of the NAPA building will start on July 7.  The Herald-Times

  • The all-time medalists of the Bloomington City Golf Qualifying Tournament were chronicled in a review that covers men's, seniors, and super seniors records since 1982. Ike Martin’s 131 in 1993 remains the lowest score — he also holds the record for most medals with eight wins.  The Herald-Times
