- ➤ The Bloomington Dachshund Club celebrated its first birthday Thursday afternoon on Switchyard Park’s B-Line Trail when nearly a dozen dachshunds wore glitter party hats and enjoyed pup-cups made with Reddi-wip. Founder Kaitlyn Mason said the club, started on April 20, 2024, has grown to more than 315 members and plans to host more events in the future. Indiana Daily Student

- ➤ AAUP Bloomington condemned IU on July 3 for planning to eliminate, suspend or merge 249 academic programs and said the cuts ignore the concerns of faculty and students. The group demanded IU delay the changes so that affected departments can vote on their future—insisting on a return to transparent shared governance. The Bloomingtonian
- ➤ Indiana University Kids College expanded to six campuses, including IU Indianapolis, where middle schoolers explore college success and future careers in a free summer program. - ➤ Bloomington approved a $209K contract with Toole Design Group Tuesday night to study the 4.5-mile Rogers Street corridor—part of a safe streets initiative—while the Regional Development Council rejected two bids for the former IU Health hospital site to begin a process of democratizing neighborhood development. - ➤ Today, Indiana law permits fireworks use from 10 a.m. until midnight while setting special hours from 5 p.m. until two hours after sunset from June 29 until July 9. Residents are urged to check local ordinances and practice safety—such as keeping water nearby—when celebrating. WTHR
- ➤ An underground electrical issue left the three-way stoplight at the Kirkwood and College avenues intersection out for a week in downtown Bloomington—city officials are using specialized services to locate the fault and expect to fix the light soon.
