COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local groups will host a free screening of 'John Lewis: Good Trouble' on July 16th at First United Methodist Church and hold a 'People Have the Power' march and rally on July 17th from 5 to 7 p.m. outside the Monroe County Courthouse—both events honor Congressman John Lewis's legacy and stand against attacks on civil rights.  The Bloomingtonian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WonderLab ScienceFest will take place at the museum on July 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and July 27 from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. — teachers can get two free admissions by filling out a form online.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Harmony School will host its 44th Annual Golf Outing on August 16 at Cascades Golf Course to support the Miles Kanne Harmony School Scholarship Fund. The event begins with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and honors the memory of Miles Kanne and former board president Gene Flander.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Officer (Jeff) Baker was named Indiana School Resource Officer of the Year for Region 9 on July 9 by the Indiana School Resource Officer Association at Seven Oaks Classical School in Ellettsville. He was recognized for his dedication to school safety and for building strong relationships with students and staff.  The Bloomingtonian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington residents have noticed discolored water building up on their filters, and city officials said the problem is temporary and not a health risk. Seasonal changes and higher water from Monroe Reservoir stirred up minerals (iron and manganese) while the city adjusted treatment efforts and advised residents to change filters more often.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration proposed a Medicaid change on July 12 that would limit recreational therapy to six hours a month—advocates warn that the cap will reduce essential support for disabled residents—and town hall meetings are planned in Indianapolis and Fishers while public comments remain open until August 8.  The Bloomingtonian

  • The 2025 Chefs' Challenge will be held on Sunday, August 3 at One World at Woolery Mill with doors opening at 5 p.m.—returning champion Adam Noffsinger of Michael’s Uptown Cafe will defend his title against two local chefs while guests enjoy a full-course meal, cash bar, and silent auction.  The Bloomingtonian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jim Murphy is a local sports and community leader from Eastern Greene who earned a place in the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame as a Contributor/Athlete—he will be inducted on July 25 at the Bloomington Convention Center. He rose from humble beginnings to lead projects that helped shape our town, including downtown revitalization and youth sports coaching.  The Herald-Times
  • Ike Martin advanced into his 17th final of the Bloomington City Golf Tournament after his 4 and 3 win over Rory Brown at Cascades on Saturday, July 12 and will face Dan Neubecker in the Super Seniors final at 7:46 a.m. today—Chad Osborne will compete against Matt Till in the Seniors final starting at 7:38 a.m. today.  The Herald-Times
  • Simon Deliyannis beat Robert Wise 3 and 2 in Saturday’s semifinal at Cascades — earning a spot in today’s 36‐hole men’s final at 7:30 a.m. Missy Ringler, returning after a break — advanced to the women’s final and will face Mira Bruce at 7:54 a.m.  The Herald-Times
