  • The City of Bloomington Council for Community Accessibility will mark the ADA's 35th anniversary on Saturday, August 2 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fernandez Plaza outside City Hall — if it rains, the event moves indoors to the City Hall Atrium, and local organizations will offer booths, activities, games, prizes, and cookies to highlight community accessibility.  Indiana Daily Student

  • Monroe County summer camps offered creative activities such as theater at Constellation Stage & Screen and radio projects at WFHB where kids and teens learned new skills and built confidence—while Ivy Tech hosted arts and science camps that gave students a fun chance to explore new interests.  The B Square Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At last night's Monroe County Council meeting, a coalition of twelve local organizations urged council members to renovate the current jail and invest in housing, mental health care, food security, and substance use treatment rather than spend over $230 million on a new facility — they pointed out that a $62 million renovation could free up $175 million for these vital services for Monroe County's 140,000 residents.  Indiana Daily Student
  • The Bloomington police department set up mobile solar-powered surveillance cameras at Lincoln Street & Kirkwood Avenue on July 27th. Officials say the new system will help monitor the area more closely.  The B Square Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • UCLA hired former Indiana football coach Tino Sunseri to boost its offense under head coach Deshaun Foster; he impressed Bruins with his work with transfer quarterbacks. The Bruins will visit Bloomington on Oct. 25 and Sunseri will coach transfer quarterback Nico Iamaleava (who had nearly 3,000 yards last season) (as he aims for an NFL future).  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football will begin fall camp on July 30 as coach Curt Cignetti works to secure starting roles and settle a cornerback battle between Jamari Sharpe, who earned the spring game nod, and transfer Ryland Gandy.
