  • Startup Summer 2025 connects 19 student founders and 12 startups in a program at The Mill that grew from six companies last year and offers a $6,000 stipend, expert mentorship and support from IU Innovates. Demo Day will take place on July 31 in Bloomington at The Mill—doors open at 1:30 p.m. and pitches start at 2 p.m.  The Herald-Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Bloomingfoods Co-op Market in Bloomington said a credit card skimming device was found and removed from Register 3 at its East Store after video review showed it had been active (since June 28), and customers who swiped their cards until July 12 should monitor their accounts. The co-op worked with law enforcement and boosted security measures (like daily terminal inspections and upgraded hardware) to help prevent fraud.  The Bloomingtonian
  • A Bloomington man serving a 6-year sentence for causing a woman's death by driving impaired with fentanyl is asking for home detention to get addiction treatment—survivors of the crash and the victim’s family oppose his early release while a judge will decide on Aug. 19.  The Herald-Times
  • On July 28th, 2025, a 28-year-old Bloomington man allegedly jumped on a moving SUV and attacked a 37-year-old driver near South Leonard Springs Road and West Sims Lane, causing severe injuries and vehicle damage before fleeing the scene, with police later detaining him at Monroe County Jail (he now faces multiple charges).  The Bloomingtonian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 23, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit brought by four tenured professors from Indiana University and Purdue who challenged Indiana’s Senate Enrolled Act 202, a law that requires reviews to promote intellectual diversity. The ruling stated that the professors lacked standing and noted that universities had not finalized enforcement measures, while the ACLU is reviewing the decision.  The Bloomingtonian

HEALTH NEWS

  • Indiana University researchers led by Jorge José have developed an AI-assisted test that uses a high-definition motion sensor and a 10-minute tapping task to screen for ADHD and autism with over 70% accuracy. The team said the method may be used as an early screening tool in schools, but further research is needed before it can replace current assessments—potentially reducing long wait times.  The Herald-Times
  • Cook Medical launched a new Interventional MRI division on July 28 to build purpose-made devices for MRI procedures—helping doctors see inside the body without radiation. The company is working with physicians and hospitals to add this advanced tool to make complex treatments safer.  The Bloomingtonian

  • Indiana basketball named Andrej Acimovic— a 6-foot-11 center from Bosnia— as the 13th scholarship player for coach Darian DeVries' first team. He played four Under-19 ABA League games where he averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds and will join the team as a freshman with four years of eligibility.  The Herald-Times
