COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local restaurateur Jordan Davis is reviving Taste of Bloomington today on Kirkwood Avenue—bringing live music and food samples priced at $5 or less back after its last run in 2019. The free festival runs until 10 p.m. and aims to help local eateries stay in business.  WRTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington Utilities will begin sewer improvements near the intersection of South College Ave. and West 2nd St. on Sunday, August 3 at 8:00 p.m., closing the intersection until Monday, August 4 at 6 a.m. while West 2nd St. will be closed from the B-Line Trail to South College Ave. through Friday, August 15—access to Kroger and Wendy’s will remain open.  City of Bloomington
  • The City of Bloomington will start a roadway improvement project on North Walnut Street on August 4—extending from the State Road 45 Bypass to Old State Road 37—with work that includes asphalt resurfacing, curb ramp and guardrail repairs, and a new left turn lane at Blue Ridge Drive for southbound traffic; the project is set to finish by November and businesses and homes will keep their access during construction. Motorists are urged to take alternate routes when possible.  City of Bloomington
  • Bloomington’s Parks and Recreation launched the Tree Assistance Program to help homeowners remove or prune dangerous trees and plant new ones. Homeowners who live on their property and meet income requirements—approved by the Board of Park Commissioners on July 17—can apply until Oct. 1 for work set for spring.  City of Bloomington
  • Bloomington city council updated local wastewater rules on Wednesday by adding a new grease trap option for managing fats, oils, and grease and setting tighter limits on toxic metals in industrial waste. The council also changed stormwater rules to align with a state law so construction sites now only need to start land stabilization within seven days—steps meant to protect the city's infrastructure.  The B Square Bulletin

  • Trent Sisley, the only Indiana scholarship player on IU’s roster, has adjusted well to college basketball after transferring from Heritage Hills to Montverde Academy — his improved shooting and strength impressed coach Darian DeVries as the team prepares for its summer tour in Puerto Rico next week.  The Herald-Times
  • Former IU baseball star Kyle Schwarber was named to the IU Hall of Fame for his key role in the team's first College World Series trip and record-setting season, but he deferred his induction on September 5 because his Phillies season is still underway. He joins six other inductees—including former teammate Cody Zeller—and remains an active player known for his 321 career home runs.  The Herald-Times
