ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 76-year-old Bloomington woman, Dorothy Kent, was killed Tuesday afternoon when a Jeep turning left from Liberty Drive struck her on 3rd Street—police said the driver did not see her and investigators are reviewing nearby video footage.  The B Square Bulletin

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression rated seven Indiana colleges on their free speech policies, giving red lights to Notre Dame and Indiana State because their rules limit student speech and a yellow light to IU for unclear speech codes. Purdue and DePauw earned green lights while Ball State and the University of Southern Indiana received yellow ratings, and the report shows these ratings have remained the same for three years.  The Herald-Times
  • IU Kelley School of Business has updated its admission requirements so that pre-business students enrolling for summer 2025 through spring 2026 must earn a B+ or higher and those for summer 2026 through spring 2027 must get an A- while starting fall, direct admission will use the Kelley Prospect Inventory — a new review process that replaces automatic acceptance based on GPA and test scores — to assess overall potential.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Monroe County was quietly removed from the DOJ sanctuary list on August 6—federal officials gave no explanation and county leaders reported no policy changes.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Bloomington sued the owners — Continental Management and Beacon Inc. — of Crawford Apartments in June for unsafe housing conditions and lack of promised support services, and the city filed a breach of contract motion Tuesday after required improvements were not met by August 1. Mayor Kerry Thomson warned that failing to fix the issues risks federal funding, while residents like Dakota Collins say the support they were promised never came and many remain on the streets.  WRTV
