Downtown Bloomington is set to change as new businesses open, festivals are planned, and infrastructure improvements progress to update the area.

Bloomington residents can safely view a partial eclipse today between 11:34 a.m. and 1:46 p.m. ET using certified solar eclipse glasses or a safe projection method as instructed by NASA and astronomy experts.

The City of Bloomington is set to host Safety Week from Aug.

22 through Aug. 28 as part of its Safe Streets and Roads for All Action Plan. Residents can join a community bike tour, offer feedback at pop-up booths, plus enjoy a family-friendly ride with treats at select spots.

City officials advise drivers that full road closures will occur in the second half of August for storm sewer and pavement upgrades.

Roadblocks include Second and Rogers beginning Monday, Aug. 17, South Rogers starting Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Third Street starting Tuesday, Aug. 25 — detour routes keep access open.

Indiana men's soccer players Josh Maher, Collins Oduro, and Stephane Njike have been named to the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch list as the season nears; Maher and Oduro return while Njike (from Maryland) adds talent ahead of an exhibition match against Loyola at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Bloomington.

Indiana women’s soccer opens its season today at Bill Armstrong Stadium at 8 p.m. against Hampton University after a 1-1 draw with Dayton last Saturday, and coach Josh Rife said he will review game film to boost defense + offense before the match.
