- ➤ Since Monday afternoon, about 3,000 Duke Energy customers in Bloomington have experienced brief on-and-off outages due to an equipment malfunction — an issue sparked when an object struck power lines. - ➤ The City of Bloomington announced Monday it is proposing a water rate increase to fund upgrades at the 60-year-old Monroe Water Treatment Plant and build a new service center at the former Winston Thomas wastewater treatment plant site. Public meetings on Aug. 25, Aug. 29, and Sept. 8 will let residents comment as the plan moves to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission for final review—this proposal is based on a cost-of-service study using smart meter data. - ➤ Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson proposed a $147M budget for 2026, which calls for using $11.2M from city reserves to balance spending as new tax rules have lowered revenue—this plan also provides a 2% raise for non-union workers and a 3% raise for police and firefighters while cutting two vacant special projects coordinator roles and adding four new jobs.
