ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Late Saturday and early Sunday, storms in Monroe County trapped a camper under a tree at Hardin Ridge Campground in Heltonville—firefighters, ambulance crews and a sheriff's deputy freed the camper and took them to a hospital where their condition was stable. The storms also damaged docks at Fourwinds Marina, and staff with conservation officers evacuated boaters and worked to fix hazards while no one was hurt. WTHR
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Gayle Cook, cofounder of Cook Group — a noted preservationist who helped restore over 70 historic sites — died Sunday at 91 in Bloomington. She and her husband launched the business in 1963, leaving a long-lasting legacy in local historic preservation. The Bloomingtonian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On August 15, 2025, Indiana University suspended all activities of the Palestine Solidarity Committee after receiving reports that the group disrupted operations and damaged property during previous academic years—the suspension order requires canceling all events and meetings and mandates a meeting with officials within five business days. - ➤ Indiana University in Bloomington produced many alumni who became famous in music, acting and science—like a world-class violinist and a lead actor from Breaking Bad who started on campus. Their work shows how IU helped shape pop culture and bring new ideas to life. The Herald-Times

- ➤ Library trustees will vote on Wednesday, Aug. 20, to cut downtown MCPL hours by closing at 7 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday—data showing low visitor numbers in the later hours and state tax cuts prompted the change, and those wanting to comment can email the board afterward. - ➤ Indiana women's soccer beat Youngstown State 6-1 on Thursday night with six scoring plays, including two goals each from sophomore midfielder Maggie Ledwith and senior forward Sarah Sirdah, earning head coach Josh Rife his first win at Indiana—he reached his 50th overall win.
